The Disciple
Reb Noson — Rabbi Nathan of Breslov
רבי נתן מברסלב
Reb Noson Sternhartz (1780–1844) was Rebbe Nachman’s foremost disciple. He recorded the lessons, printed the books, and carried Breslov through opposition and exile.
The scribe who saved a path
Without Reb Noson, much of Rebbe Nachman’s Torah might never have been written down. He met the Rebbe in 1802, recognized his teacher, and devoted the rest of his life to listening, recording, printing, and teaching.
He suffered imprisonment and exile under the Russian Empire, yet established the annual Rosh Hashanah pilgrimage to Uman and left a library — Likutey Halakhot, Likutey Tefilot, Chayey Moharan, and more — that still feeds Breslov today.
