Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Bender

A central Breslov teacher of the twentieth century. After years connected with the community in Uman, he settled in Jerusalem and formed a generation of students who carried Breslov into the modern world.

Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Bender was among the foremost Breslov mashpiim of the last century. He received the path from the line of Reb Noson’s students and taught it with simplicity, prayer, and stubborn joy.

He lived through the upheavals of Eastern Europe, remained bound to Uman, and later guided a community in Jerusalem. Many English-speaking Breslov teachers trace their learning to him, including Rabbi Tzvi Rosenfeld.

The teacher who opened Breslov to English-speaking Jews in America. A close student of Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Bender, he translated, taught, and built institutions so Rebbe Nachman’s Torah could be heard in a new land.

Rabbi Tzvi Aryeh Rosenfeld devoted his life to bringing Rebbe Nachman’s teachings to America. He studied with Rabbi Levi Yitzchok Bender and worked to print, translate, and teach Breslov Torah in English.

Through classes, books, and personal guidance he made Breslov available to students who had no other doorway into the path. His work remains a bridge between the Jerusalem community and the English-speaking world.
